Trước Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, game mang thương hiệu Harry Potter được EA tung ra trên mọi nền có thể như thể họ là nhà ảo thuật kéo liên tiếp khăn mùi xoa ra từ túi áo mình. Ngoài những trò chơi có nội dung gắn liền với phim, hãng này còn phát hành Quidditch World Cup, game thuộc dạng thể thao fantasy, cùng nhiều sản phẩm cho máy di động như Find Scabbers và Mastering Magic. Một trò chơi MMO Harry Potter cũng đã được lên kế hoạch sản xuất.
Tiểu thuyết Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince là cuốn thứ 6 trên tổng số 7 tập truyện của nhà văn J.K.Rowling. Nhưng bộ phim lại là bản thứ 6 trong số 8 tác phẩm điện ảnh bởi hãng Warner Bros. đã quyết định chia nội dung tập truyện cuối Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ra thành 2 phim, phát hành vào tháng 11/2010 và tháng 5/2011. Trong game Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, game thủ sẽ trở lại trường Hogwarts để giúp chàng phù thủy Harry vượt qua các thử thách trong năm học thứ 6. Dĩ nhiên, game thủ sẽ có cơ hội so tài trong các cuộc đấu tay đôi phép thuật với các phù thủy khác. Ngoài ra, bộ môn Quidditch vẫn là một trong những phần thú vị nhất của game, người chơi sẽ phải giúp Harry giành chức vô địch trong năm học này.
Nhưng nội dung chính của game là giúp anh bạn thân của Harry là Ron tìm hiểu những khúc mắc về nhân dạng được mệnh danh là "Half Blood Prince".
Theo nhà phát hành EA cho biết, nội dung trên game sẽ bám chặt vào nội dung của tiểu thuyết hơn cả phiên bản trên phim. Đặc biệt, Harry sẽ không bị gò bó vào các cảnh chơi, thay vào đó, game thủ sẽ có thể đi lại thoải mái, tự do khám phá các bí ẩn trong trường Hogwarts.
